Welcome to my Crosby Prix des Nations saddle review. I wanted to review this pre-owned saddle to stress the point that buying used saddles is a great way to go. You can often find a high quality saddle in good working condition at a fraction of the price. The quality of the older style Crosby Prix des Nation saddle is great. This Crosby saddle s well constructed. It is made of sturdy English leather that holds up very well under heavy use. There are plenty of Crosby Prix des Nations that are 10 years old and still show up in the show ring. The stitching is also very study. My Crosby Prix des Nations saddle is about 10 years old and all of the original stitching is intact. It still as the original billets which are lined to keep them from stretching.
This saddle isn't the most comfortable. It is a close contact saddle, which are not known for comfort in the first place. Hwever the Crosby Prix des Nations has a particularly hard and narrow seat and waist and no knee rolls or thigh blocks. Although, I don't find the saddle comfortable, this design is also the reason why I like this saddle. It is ultra close contact and you get a very good feel of the horse. It also doesn't allow you to rely on the saddle for balance and pick up form faults. For that reason, I think every English rider should learn to ride in a Crosby Prix des Nations.
The price of this saddle when purchased used just can't be beat. You get a well made, classic saddle for under $1000 and I would choose the Prix des Nations any day over a cheap new saddle.
I gave the Prix des Nations a rating of 4 for overall quality. It will help you with correct equitation, take the beating of many rides and the price is right. Back to saddle reviews.
